World Series Game 7 Draws Over 50 Million Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51M spectators in the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB stated this is the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 contest featuring the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured over 27 million viewers on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series game since the 2017 final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the previous Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game finished in 13th position.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game averaged 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language program in the country since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game began at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Series Totals and Patterns

The full seven-game series drew 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total American average reached 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09 million watchers, an 8% increase over the previous year and the network’s strongest postseason performance after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 media partners in sixteen various languages.
