Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the team understands precisely where to head next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the secret base, striking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then paid off his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could help the team enter areas they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Questers and Planners tables.
Viewers can expect learning which players will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
